The Intertubes are fighting back from the wilds of La Crosse, Wisconsin this morning so the post will come this evening. I suspect a cow was tipped over on a server somewhere.
Great American Road Trip: Day 2
Day Two is done! (well, technically, it’s Day 3, but I’m going to backdate this sucker and you’ll never know the difference)
Today’s route took us along I-90 through the rest of New York, a bit of Pennsylvania, ALL of Ohio and part of Indiana. It’s been a LONG day and we went about 570 miles, mostly at 65-68mph as that’s about all the VLYT will do.
Observations from the road:
- The last 10 miles of a long day are the absolute WORST – and take roughly 32 hours to complete, which is saying something given that we only spent about 11 hours on the road.
- We always order the same damn thing at Applebees (Cheese quesadilla for Sargent, chicken strips for Marlow, big beers for both).
- Sam Octoberfest tastes REALLY good in the middle of nowhere.
- Elkhart, Indiana is definitely close to the middle of nowhere – even if it is 110 miles or so from Chicago.
- The Emergency Meow from Lynn Wolf never gets old, especially when you leave it at the bottom of the pile of stuff in the dashboard cubbyhole and random bumps set it off.
- I-90 is a toll road from Boston clear past Chicago. BOO, HISS!!!
- Diesel prices vary WIDELY depending on where you stop. We saw a $0.20 per gallon swing between 2 exits (and when you buy Diesel 30 gallons at a time it matters).
- We still like each other 🙂

Great American Road Trip: Day 1
Day one of The Great American Road Trip is now done!
Today’s schedule consisted of the following:
- 6:30 am: Get up
- 6:45 am: Pound down the caffeinated beverage of choice
- 7:30 am: Go pick up Very Large Yellow Truck (VLYT in future updates)
- 8:00 am: Movers arrive early!
- 8:30 am: Arrive home with VLYT and discover loading zone is open
(unusual)! - 8:30 am to 2:30 pm: Mad packing of final stuff by us and very
organized wrapping and loading by the movers - 10:30 am: Monster TV departs to new home (somebody in a wheelchair got a surprise TV from his PCA yesterday)
- 2:30 pm: Quick shower
- 3:00 pm: Final lunch as Eastie residents at Santarpio’s. The staff were exceptionally grumpy – something we won’t miss about Boston.
- 4:00 pm: VLYT is now on the road at the eastern end of I-90
- 4:00 pm to 9:20 pm: Bouncing down the road in the VLYT, which appears to have a rev-limiter set to 70mph. Damn. Oh well – at least it’s Large and Yellow!
- 9:20 pm: Arrive in East Syracuse, park VLYT, check in and crash.

So long Cubicle
Just packed up my office at Certica HQ 🙁 It’s weird to leave an office and position without leaving a company. I’m also really going to miss all my colleagues in the Wakefield office!
